News of our latest work implementing Liberty..
A London-based law firm was searching for a flexible solution to manage data extraction on large-scale projects. The challenge with some of the solutions they reviewed was that the majority of contracts needing to be digitised and extracted were not standardised and there wasn't a huge volume of similar documents for a platform to "learn" from.
By implementing Liberty and working with the team, different data models and approaches were designed along with a quality control process to ensure that all projects can be managed through the platform, whether entirely automatic or partially manual extraction was required. The platform gives the law firm a clear and detailed report in the required format for each engagement.
Legal Opinions and Due Diligence Summaries are a necessary evil for any international organisation, trading across multiple jurisdictions with many different regulations to comply with. The bank needed a solution that would manage the frequent opinion refresh for each product and each jurisdiction where they traded, and that also offered an intuitive GUI for the various different legal and compliance teams to interact with.
Liberty was implemented to automatically request updated opinions from external counsel, provide an interface for external counsel to upload the new opinions to, read the opinion and automatically identify whether changes were needed to the summary grids. Any changes then get referred to the appropriate legal team before the latest summary gets posted and processed. A further module was developed to track the billing process for the opinions, which has identified a number of areas for savings.
With over 1,000 masters agreements in place between themselves and their counterparties, the bank was looking for a solution where all agreements, and the key provisions within those agreements, could be tracked, stored and easily reported on. Critical to the client was ease of use and a consistent approach to each contract type. For the higher volume agreements (ISDA Master Agreements and CSAs) the Liberty implementation extracts over 100 data points from each contract, and is more than 98% accurate, meaning that quality control is not time-consuming for the team.
The platform is able to track contractual changes through each and every amendment, and along with the ability to report on over 100 fields across the entire population at the click of a button means that both projects and regular audit activities are less time consuming and far less costly for the bank.
